Bible Reading Challenge

    Apr 18, 2024 |

Ultimate Goal: To know and believe the story of God to then build on that foundation to become the men and women God is calling us to be.
Challenge: Read/listen to Proverbs—Revelation by the end of April
    Reward:
    1. Being filled with the life-giving Word of God, which does not return void (Is 55:11).

    2. Sat, Apr 27: 9am-3pm-High Ropes Course & Zipline at Millersville University for completing Proverbs-Revelation. Millersville has several high ropes, climbing, and zipline options. It sounds like a great set up!
**Must be about 100 lbs or more to attend due to harness safety. Only those who complete the challenges by the respective dates will be a part of the rewards. If it is impossible to make the final reward event, a cash prize of $25 will be given.
It’s not too late to start!

    • How much per day:  Prov-Rev is 561 chapters. If you start Dec 1, that is 152 days until Apr 30. 561 chap/ 152 days = 3.7 chapters per day.
    • Read or Listen: You may read or listen to the Bible. If you listen, we do ask you not listen at a speed faster than 1.25x. Faster than that gets ridiculous and is hard to hear words at times.
    • Keeping track: A paper copy will be provided to keep track if you want. Or if you choose an app, the app keeps track for you. Parents will be asked to sign at the end to verify their youth did the reading/listening.

Any questions, please ask. I’m excited for God’s Word forming and shaping us into the men and women God is calling us to be!

    Bible Reading Resources

I, personally, listen to the Bible Project book intros before I start each book and am blessed and grateful each time that I do.

    1)      The Bible App: https://www.youversion.com/the-bible-app/

There are many other Bible reading and listening apps as well. This is a really good one I have used for a few years. It gives many translations most of which you can listen to as well. It has many different reading/listening plans that will keep track of what you have already read.

    2)      The Bible Project Reading Plan: https://www.bible.com/reading-plans/4820-bibleproject-the-bible

This is within the Bible App. It follows the Bible in order. AND it provides really great, short, rich videos at the beginning of each book and sometimes throughout to better understand what is happening.

    3)      Canonical Bible Plan: https://www.bible.com/reading-plans/4

This plan goes straight through the Bible and keeps track.

    4)      The Bible Project: https://bibleproject.com/explore/

The Bible Project website provides 100’s of mostly short, rich videos with great biblical content often with easy to understand cartoons. They have book overviews for every book of the Bible along with other great content. Here are some great videos around ideas we have been or will soon teach on at youth group or will be covered in the Bible Challenge reading:

    Proverbs: https://bibleproject.com/explore/video/proverbs/

    Ecclesiastes: https://bibleproject.com/explore/video/ecclesiastes/

    Song of Songs: https://bibleproject.com/explore/video/song-of-songs/

    Isaiah: https://bibleproject.com/explore/video/isaiah/

    5)      Bookmark: Read a printed Bible and put a bookmark or attached ribbon in the Bible where you stopped to begin the next time :)
